From a Dream to Texas Equine Adventures: Celebrating the Women Who Dare to Begin

Sometimes a dream begins as nothing more than an idea you cannot quite let go of.

For me, that dream was Texas Equine Adventures™.

Last year, I was incredibly honored to receive a grant from Boss Mares, Inc. to help begin bringing that dream to life. Boss Mares supports women pursuing business and educational goals within agriculture and the Western industry, and being selected as a grant recipient gave me an opportunity to take an idea I had carried for quite some time and begin turning it into something tangible.

This year, Boss Mares is continuing that mission in a big way. The organization recently announced that it is awarding more than $50,000 in business and education grants to 11 women from across the country. The 2026 grant cycle drew 64 applications from 22 states—the organization's largest applicant pool yet.

As a previous recipient, seeing another group of women receive that opportunity is especially meaningful.

Because I now know firsthand that receiving the grant isn't the end of the story.

Sometimes, it is only the beginning.

Building the Series I Imagined

When I began Texas Equine Adventures™, I knew I wanted to create a youth fiction series centered around the horses of Texas Equine Education & Horsemanship™.

What I didn't realize was just how much goes into creating a book series from the ground up.

There have been far more pieces to put together than I originally imagined. Writing, developing characters, creating the world of the series, illustrations, design, publishing decisions, and all of the little details that ultimately turn an idea into the book you finally get to hold in your hands—it has been quite an adventure of its own.

It has taken longer than I originally expected.

And, strangely enough, I am thankful for that.

Having the time to develop the series has allowed me to think carefully about what I want Texas Equine Adventures™ to become rather than rushing simply to say that the first book is finished. This isn't something I want to create once and move on from. I want to build a series young readers can grow to recognize, anticipate, and love.

And the horses have a lot to say about it.

Straight From the Horse's Mouth

Texas Equine Adventures™ is a youth fiction series with a rather unusual group of storytellers: the horses themselves.

The stories are narrated by horses at Texas Equine™, which means readers will experience the excitement, mishaps, friendships, mysteries, and everyday adventures of Texas Equine™ straight from the horse's mouth.

Even better, the characters aren't simply fictional horses.

Readers will get to know The Real Horses of Texas Equine™ through the stories.

Anyone who spends much time around horses knows they have incredibly distinct personalities, and ours are certainly no exception. Their personalities will shine through the conversations, opinions, antics, and adventures throughout the series.

Of course, we can't promise that this is exactly what they are saying to one another when we're not around.

But we have our suspicions.

Something New Is Coming to Texas Equine™

Although the journey to the first book has taken longer than I initially anticipated, Texas Equine Adventures™ is getting closer to leaving the pasture and making its way into the hands of young readers.

And I cannot wait to begin introducing you to this world.

Over the coming months, we'll be sharing more about the series, its horses, the stories behind its creation, and—most importantly—the highly anticipated release of the first book in the Texas Equine Adventures™ series.

You can already get a little taste of what's coming.

Visit our website to follow the Texas Equine Adventures™ journey and listen to the official Texas Equine Adventures™ theme song.

Consider it your first introduction to the adventure, and let us know how many horses you hear mentioned in the song!

Congratulations to the 2026 Boss Mares

As I continue working toward the release of Texas Equine Adventures™, I am incredibly grateful to Boss Mares, Inc. for being part of its beginning.

Boss Mares was founded in 2023 to empower women in agriculture and the Western industry through opportunities including its “Lead the Herd” workshops and business and education grants. The organization has already announced plans to continue those grants again in 2027.

To this year's 11 grant recipients: A BIG Texas-sized Congratulations!

You may already know exactly where this opportunity will take you—or, like me, you may discover that the dream grows, changes, and becomes much bigger once you actually begin building it.

Either way, enjoy the adventure.

I certainly am.

And as for Texas Equine Adventures™?

The horses have been keeping their stories to themselves long enough.

It's almost time to hear their side of things.
