On August 23, 2025, history was made at Fair Park in Dallas, Texas, with the very first State Fair of Texas EWD Heroes and Hooves Horse Show coordinated by Jessica Harrod. This groundbreaking event was designed to celebrate and support veterans and riders who face mental, physical, and emotional challenges, giving them the chance to showcase their skills, resilience, and love for horses in the arena.
The show welcomed participants with identified disabilities—whether physical, cognitive, emotional, or a combination of these. Riders as young as eight years old were eligible to participate.

The day was filled with inspiration as competitors demonstrated their hard work, determination, and passion for equestrian activities. Families, volunteers, and spectators cheered on as riders confidently guided their horses through classes that highlighted not only riding abilities but also trust and partnership with their equine companions.

Texas Equine Education & Horsemanship was deeply honored to be part of this inaugural event. Our very own Shelby had the privilege of judging the Trail Class, where participants navigated obstacles with focus and determination. It was a moment that truly highlighted the heart of equestrian sport-teamwork, courage, and joy. Showmanship and Equitation were judged by Amy Causey. Ring stewards were Heather Hernandez and RD Sedillo. The success of the first annual Heroes and Hooves Horse Show has set the stage for an exciting tradition at the State Fair of Texas.

We are already looking forward to next year’s event, where even more riders will have the chance to shine.
At Texas Equine, we are proud to stand alongside this incredible community of riders, families, and supporters.
Congratulations to all of the participants for making the inaugural show such a resounding success!
