Combat to Cowboy: A Night Honoring Veterans and Horsemanship

Updated: 2 days ago

On Saturday evening, May 10th, Shelby and Kim from Texas Equine had the honor of attending Combat to Cowboy, a remarkable event hosted at Punk Carter Horsemanship in Celina, Texas. The evening was a powerful blend of patriotism, horsemanship, music, and community—raising awareness and support for the incredible work being done by Stay In The Fight Veterans Foundation and the VALOR Veterans program.

The event featured a master class horse demonstration by Pat Puckett of The Disciplined Ride, showcasing the deep connection and discipline that horsemanship can bring—a fitting tribute to the strength and resilience of our veterans. Shelby and Kim thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to learn from Pat and connect with the legendary Mr. Punk Carter, whose hospitality and dedication to the Western lifestyle were on full display.

Guests had the opportunity to enjoy an array of premium refreshments, including tastings from 1693 Distillery and Heyday, premium beer from Rollertown, and wine—all complemented by a mouthwatering BBQ spread provided by Petaluma Cafe. The atmosphere was warm and welcoming, with a true sense of Texas hospitality and heartfelt appreciation for our veterans.

Live music took center stage thanks to Matthew JC and Operation Rock The Troops, featuring Marine Veteran Josh Stone, Army Veteran Shilo Harris, and Marine Veterans Shane Krutchen and Mike Millioni. The night also included a powerful performance by Veteran Deanna Wheeler and her band, leaving the crowd inspired and energized.

The National Anthem was performed by Marine Veteran James Greenlee, reminding everyone of the sacrifices made by our service members and the importance of continued support as they transition into civilian life.

It was a true honor for Texas Equine to be in attendance at such a meaningful event. We left the evening inspired, encouraged, and excited about the potential to collaborate with Punk Carter, Pat Puckett, and the Stay In The Fight team in the future.

Thank you to everyone who made Combat to Cowboy such a meaningful and successful event. Supporting our veterans—whether through our own Stars & Stirrups program or through equine therapy and horsemanship more broadly—is a mission we are deeply passionate about. We're proud to stand alongside others who share these values and to support fellow programs working toward the same goal.

It truly takes a village, and we’re honored to be part of one that never forgets our veterans.
